Gym Battles
1. Joining a Team and Finding Gyms:
- When you reach level 5, you'll be prompted to join one of the three teams: Team Mystic (Blue), Team Valor (Red), or Team Instinct (Yellow).
- Gyms are located at real-world landmarks. Look for tall structures with spinning discs on the map to find them.
2. Assessing Gym Strength:
- Before engaging in a Gym battle, evaluate its strength. The Gym's color indicates which team currently controls it.
- Pay attention to the number of Pokémon defending the Gym, their CP (Combat Power), and their motivation.
3. Building Your Battle Team:
- Assemble a team of Pokémon with advantageous types against the defending Pokémon in the Gym.
- Use type advantages and consider the defenders' weaknesses. For example, use Water Pokémon against Fire types.
- High CP Pokémon with strong movesets are generally better for battling.
4. Understanding Combat Mechanics:
- Gym battles in Pokémon GO are real-time tap-based battles.
- Tap the screen to perform the fast move, and when your charge move gauge fills up, press and hold to unleash the charge move.
- Dodge incoming attacks by swiping left or right.
5. Motivation and CP Decay:
- Defending Pokémon lose motivation over time, reducing their CP temporarily.
- Feed berries to Pokémon in friendly Gyms to restore their motivation and prevent decay.
- Weakened motivation makes the Gym easier to defeat.
6. Battling and Defeating Pokémon:
- Start the battle by tapping on the Gym defender. Your Pokémon will automatically attack.
- Keep an eye on the defender's attack animations and dodge when necessary.
- Use your charge moves strategically to deal significant damage.
- Defeat all the defending Pokémon to claim victory and lower the Gym's prestige.
7. Taking Over a Gym:
- After defeating all the defending Pokémon, the Gym's prestige will decrease, and it will eventually be taken over by your team.
- Place your own Pokémon in the Gym to defend it. The Pokémon with the highest CP will be positioned first.
8. Training at Friendly Gyms:
- You can train at friendly Gyms to increase their prestige and level up your team.
- Select a Pokémon with lower CP than the defenders in the Gym to earn more prestige when you win.
9. Gym Badges and Rewards:
- Interacting with Gyms earns you Gym Badges, which increase in level as you participate more.
- Higher-level Gym Badges provide additional rewards, such as extra items when spinning the Gym's photo disc.
10. Teamwork and Raiding:
- Coordinate with fellow team members to take down strong Gyms more efficiently.
- Organize Raid Battles to defeat powerful Raid Bosses and earn rare rewards.
Remember, Gym battles are an integral part of Pokémon GO, allowing you to demonstrate your skills, earn rewards, and strengthen your team's dominance. Practice strategic team building and type advantage awareness to become a Gym battler extraordinaire. Good luck!
